Taesub Shin, Senior Researcher

How do you spend your day?

First in the morning, I check my emails to see if there are any urgent tasks that need immediate attentions. Althought most of my work is project-based, there are times when urgent issues arise. The rest of my day is dedicated to working on development projects.

Could you Introduce your team and your job.

I'm part of the EIS (Electronic Initiating System) development team. EIS is a system that triggers explosives by providing the initial energy. You can understand it as an Electronic Detonation System. While there are various methods to initiate explosives, our team specializes in detonation using electrical energy from electronic devices. We are also involved in developing the equipment necessary to operate these electronic detonating systems. Additionally, we've recently begun developing a remote blasting system that utilizes wireless communication technology.

Can you share your growth experience in our company?

Steve Jobs once told the Macintosh team'people don't know what they want before we show it to them'.

There is an android-based device called "Planner" in the electronic detonator system. Before Planner, there was nothing like it on the market and we wanted to be the first to make it. Without any existing model to benchmark, we went out to the blasting field and observe how workers do the job to figure out functions they need and design user-friendly UI and UX . When the app finally launched, I was thrilled to see our clients' positive reactions to Planner. That experience was the turning point for me as a SW developer changing my perspective to proactively consider what customers want before they request it.

Explain the most fulfilled experience at work.

I find great happiness when a product, which we've dedicated months to developing, performs well at a test site and this happiness is even greater when I teach clients how to use it and they successfully complete their blasting operations.

Why did you choose Hanwha Corporation/Global?

Witnessing a tunnel being created or quarries being demolished with just one press of the 'blast' button is an extraordinary experience that not many people have. Furthermore, developing an initiating system with advanced technology that seems like you can only see in a science fiction movie is a truly unique aspect of my job. This sense of wonder and mystique was enough to fuel my curiosity and led me to join this company.

What boosts you when you're exhausted by work?

When I feel exhausted at work, it's often the little things that replenish my energy, such as dining out at nice restaurants with like-minded colleagues and talking about our common interests.

What's your personal career goal?

My goal is to develop blasting software that bears my name.

Can you advise young talnets on what kind of studies or capabilities they should develop to do this job?

It's crucial to not only have a distinct specialty but also to remain open to new technologies and continually evolve.
