Chaeyoung Kim, Associate

How do you spend your day?

In the morning, I usually work on my daily tasks. I check the results of the analysis from the day before. I check whether there is anything missing, and whether the analyzing device is operating properly! During lunchtime, I would drink coffee with my coworkers after lunch or take a nap to recharge. In the afternoon, I usually reply to the emails and do some QA work, and before you know it, the day is over!

Please introduce your team and the work you are in charge of.

The Onsan plant production management team produces nitric acid, ammonium nitrate, and Porous Prilled Ammonium Nitrate (PPAN), and our team is working on the entire production process. We are making efforts to provide high-quality products to customers by conducting tasks such as raw material management, inventory management, and having discussions on ways to increase the capacity. Among them, I am in charge of analysis and quality control. I mainly check the quality and manage the client company.

When do you feel rewarded while at work? Tell me about the experience.

The recent passing of the audit for export to Thailand was the most rewarding and memorable moment for me. There were many difficult situations because of the amount of documents reviewed, but we passed the audit at last thanks to great teamwork between the production management team and the sales team. I am happy that it made up large portion for PPAN annual capacity and was a great help to the company. Next month, it will be even better as the export volume will actually be released from the factory.

Did you ever feel like you improved because you are a part of the company/organization?

With the growing demands of PPAN, I had a lot of opportunities to learn new things. Although I wasn't directly handling related tasks, I explored ways to expand capacity and address subsequent issues. Beyond production quality, I also gained insights into how transportation methods and logistics vary based on characteristics of products.

What are some things that boost you up in a busy company life?

I think my hobby keeps me alive! I don't have a hobby that I'm really into yet, but it is fun to try new things and find new hobbies. Thankfully, I can enjoy some free time on weekends, something that wasn't granted when I was looking for a job. Finding a hobby for the weekends plays an important role in relieving stress! If there is one more thing, I feel that my colleagues at work are very supportive. When I go through tough times, chatting with my seniors and colleagues, who are always there to listen, really helps me overcome those times.

Why did you choose Hanwha Global?

I wanted to join a company that had strong potential for sustainable growth, which led me to choose Hanwha Corporation/Global. I believed that as the company pushed ahead with its North America Ammonia business and the nitric acid expansion project, I too would have opportunities for personal development. This has proven true. As the company takes on increasingly ambitious projects, I find myself learning and growing in my role.

Can you advise the future coworkers on what to study and what skills to develop to do this job?

Our department is doing so many different things, and for me, this is a good opportunity to obtain a wide-range of experiences. In fact, I came in after two internship experiences in the quality/research department, both of which were very helpful for production management. (Chemistry or production related experience would be great, but all experiences can be helpful!) Once you gain lots of experience, you could explain how you will utilize your experiences and competencies in the cover letter or during the interview. In regards to what you should study additionally, I think it would be beneficial to learn about P&ID due to the nature of production management work.
