How do you spend your day?

When I'm not working from home, my day typically begins with selecting a seat upon entering the office, often opting for a standing desk to keep active throughout the day. After setting up my laptop, my team gives an update on our schedule and reminders on what needs to be done today through Microsoft Teams. As our project is in the early development stage, a significant portion of my day is dedicated to internal and external meetings, both online and in-person, with various companies for contractual and technical reviews. When I find the time, I prioritize enhancing my technical skills through personal projects and by sharing the knowledge with the rest of my team. Beyond work, the highlight of my day is lunchtime, as my coworkers and I have a plethora of amazing restaurants to choose from!

Could you introduce your team and your job?

Our team oversees business development for blue ammonia, focusing on our Blue Ammonia Project. Our team is divided into two sections: Commercial and Engineering. As a member of the Engineering section, my responsibilities include conducting technical reviews, evaluations, and providing technical support for business feasibility studies. Upon the official commencement of our project, I will start my role as one of the project owner’s process engineers.

What do you think about the culture or atmosphere of your team?

Our team is composed of members with diverse backgrounds, skills, and experiences, allowing us to cultivate our unique team culture. I believe this diversity makes us exceptionally well-suited for venturing into new business territories, where we often find ourselves pioneering within our industry. Within our team, there is a mutual respect among all members, and we actively engage in teaching and learning from one another. Each team member shares a passion for driving this project to success, fostering a sense of unity within our team.
An excellent reflection of our team culture is evident in our unique team-building activities. For instance, we recently embarked on a team hike to Namsan mountain one Friday morning. Following the hike, we spent the afternoon enjoying a picnic with wine, beer, and a variety of foods.

When have you felt fulfilled the most working in our company?

I find the greatest sense of fulfillment when I witness the direct positive impact of my work on our project. It instills in me a profound sense of value, knowing that I possess the capability to shape the outcome of our business.
A notable instance of this occurred during our technical business trip to the US, where we engaged with our business partners. I took on the responsibility of explaining and presenting our evaluation material to persuade our partners, when they harbored skepticism toward our evaluation. By the conclusion of the business trip, we successfully won them over. It was gratifying to realize that I played a pivotal role in bringing our team closer to a successful project.

How do you see yourself before and after joining our company? What has remained the same and what has changed?

I initially anticipated a more traditional work culture at Hanwha and was prepared to embrace that challenge. However, to my surprise, working at Hanwha is quite the opposite. Hanwha Global boasts one of the most progressive work cultures in Korea.
Contrary to my expectation of a rigid hierarchy, the reality is quite different. I find myself preferring to come to the office over working from home because I genuinely enjoy socializing with my team members. Throughout my time at Hanwha Global, I can't recall experiencing a 'blue Monday,' as the positive work environment consistently makes me enjoy my time at work.

What do you think is the best benefit of Hanwha Corporation/Global and why?

There are a lot of things that I love about working at Hanwha Global; we have free seating arrangements, and we have control over our biweekly work hours to align with our schedules. Additionally, a seemingly simple but great perk is the office snack bar that gets filled every day, although I do find myself snacking too often.

What's your personal career goal?

In the short term, my objective is to oversee a business project from its inception to completion as a process engineer, aiming to comprehend the entire business process from start to finish. Looking ahead, my long-term goal is to establish myself as some one that is irreplaceable at the company.

Can you advise prospective new hires about what kind of knowledge and skills are required to do this job?

I consider proficiency in a second language a standard requirement given the nature of our project. All of our team members are fluent in English at a business-proficient level, and some even speak a third language such as Chinese, Spanish, or French. In the Engineering section, being an engineer is a prerequisite, and possessing extensive experience is highly valued. This experience can be gained through internships, travel, projects, and other relevant avenues.
